Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø held its annual Spring into Service day on April 24, organized by Student Involvement. Student and employee volunteers contributed more than 400 hours of service towards projects benefitting the community and giving back in meaningful ways.
Last week, Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø held its Honors Convocation to recognize the winners of academic and student involvement awards, in addition to members of Lindenwood’s honor societies. Lindenwood is pleased to announce the 2021 award recipients.
Kirsten Hawkes is a recent graduate and student financial services counselor here at Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø. She graduated with her Bachelor’s in 2020 majoring in music business and minoring in Philosophy. During her time in the Music Business department, Hawkes had the amazing opportunity to participate in a special project offered in the music business program, which she believes exemplifies Lindenwood’s passion for Real Experience, Real Success. This project led her to begin exciting marketing and design work with local bands of Saint Louis.
Each semester Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø prides itself in the work that it does with the community. Most recently, the Lindenwood school of Education had the opportunity to provide Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training to the Collinsville school district. This training was made possible by the work of Lindenwood staff members Dr. Sarah Patterson-Mills and Dr. Tammy Moore.
In a new partnership with 4 Hands Brewing Co., Lindenwood BFA alumni Mitch Bierer and Zach Smithey currently have their art featured on beer cans from the St. Louis brewery. These limited-edition products are available in stores now.
Interim Provost, Dr. Bethany Alden-Rivers, announced the appointment of two new leaders in the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø has been recognized as an inaugural recipient of the 2021 St. Charles County Healthy Workplace Award. The award was presented by Community Strong and the Economic Development Council, and honors employers who advocate for healthy habits in the workplace. To qualify, organizations must adhere to a stringent list of workplace wellness initiatives.
One of the most important parts to success is collaboration. Working together to achieve a goal is one of the best ways to reach a goal and develop opportunities. Not only does this idea apply to individuals, but institutions as well. That is why Lindenwood’s School of Education, in partnership with DESE (the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education), has applied to, and been accepted for, the Consortium for Research-Based and Equitable Assessments (CREA).
On April 7, 2021, Dr. Melissa Elmes published a collection of essays titled Food and Feast in Premodern Outlaw Tales, alongside co-editor Kristen Bovaird-Abbo. The collection was published by Routledge, a global publisher of academic works founded in 1836. It is a longstanding publication that focuses on works in Humanities and Social Sciences and has published pieces by historical icons, like Albert Einstein and Theodor Adorno.
In 2018, the finance department at Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø created the Student Investment Fund as an opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience analyzing stocks and managing a real portfolio. The portfolio is currently beating the benchmark, and finance students have managed to generate $30,000 in profits since the fund’s inception.
